Hypnosis uses guided relaxation, concentration, and focused attention to achieve a heightened state of awareness.  The hypnotic state allows you to shift thoughts, feelings, habits, triggers, conditioning and memories you might have hidden from your conscious mind and enables you to perceive some things differently.  Therefore, it can help change certain behaviors, perceptions and sensations.

All hypnosis is self-hypnosis and is a naturally occurring state.  Someone cannot make you do things you don't agree to or want to do.
